Pennsylvania U.S. Representative Mike Kelly is supporting bipartisan legislation aimed at stopping the spread of the spotted lanternfly. The invasive bug is native to Asia and was first found in the commonwealth a few years ago, posing a risk to local crops and vegetation. The congressman is supporting a bill that would designate the spotted lanternfly as a high research priority and authorize grants for studies. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is also working with the U.S.D.A. and Penn State University and Extension to control and contain the bug.
