A Hollidaysburg native has been named the first female Drum Major in the history of Penn State’s Blue Band. Yesterday, it was announced that the band had named Ellie Sheehan as Drum Major for the 2025-2026 season, making her the first woman to hold that position in the bands more than 125-year history. Sheehan is a fifth-year student majoring in marketing. She has also served as a leader in the piccolo section of the band. In a prepared statement on social media, Sheehan said, “I’m incredibly honored to serve as Drum Major of the Penn State Blue Band for the upcoming season.” She added that, “The blue band represents the highest levels of tradition, excellence, and pride.”
