Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 7/6/25

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 6 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

After several weeks of guests and specials, we returned to the mailboxes this week to explore new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. Thus, we spotlighted a number of new songs from the area music scene; we debuted new songs from The Sorters, Forrester Grey, Steve Brosky, Buckwild, Mexico Road, The JW Project, Strange Culture, Nail Bite, Pensive Fear and X-Terra. Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1988 number from Altoona’s Tommi-Gunn from the archive for our “Local Music Flashback,” and stepped “Across State Lines” to hear a song from Chicago’s Broken Robots! (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 070625.)

A benefit event has been set up to help out an area woman battling cancer. The “Scream For Dez” benefit will take place on Saturday night, August 2 at McGarvey’s in Altoona, with proceeds helping out Dez Getz, who is battling stage 4 melanoma. The event will start at 9 p.m., and will feature performances from the bands Abstentious, Empty Mag, False Sense and A Starlite Gray. There will also be a raffle for band merchandise and a $300 tattoo voucher sponsored by The Harvest Tattoo shop. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Dez and her family.

A special event to celebrate Ukraine will take place later this month in Spruce Creek. “Ukraine at Colerain; a Pennsylkrainian Festival,” will happen on Saturday afternoon, July 26 at Colerain Forges Mansion in Spruce Creek. The event will run from noon to 5 p.m., and will feature children’s activities, crafts, authentic Ukrainian food, and live music from Rusya, Strings and Thunder, and Rumble and Scream. Admission is free, and donations are encouraged. All proceeds will benefit humanitarian aid organization Ukraine Sister’s Sister and Colerain Center.

Drummer Ray Gieda announced this past week that he is parting ways with the Jeremy Edge Project. Ray cited logistics, as he lives two hours from the rest of the band which makes getting to practices challenging. Ray said the departure was a mutual decision between him and the band, and the split is a friendly one.
