A new sports store is reportedly moving into the Big Lots building in Orchard Plaza here in Altoona. The chain is called Academy Sports+Outdoors, and is based in suburban Houston, Texas. Big Lots closed the Altoona store earlier, after filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The sports chain, which has several stores in Pennsylvania, offers everything from camping to fishing gear, along with sports and leisure products, including apparel and footwear. The store is expected to open in Altoona sometime this year.
