The city of Altoona has reportedly taken over the former Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility located along Chestnut Avenue, near the Juniata Gap Road. ICE reportedly stopped operating out of the buildings at the beginning of the year, moving their operations to Georgia. According to this morning’s Altoona Mirror, city officials would like to repurpose the buildings and get the property back on the tax rolls. The property had been the site of a U.S. Naval Reserve Training Center before ICE took over in 2017. Under ICE the site acquired, tested, issued and maintained all ICE-owned firearms.
