An Altoona man is behind bars and charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of his 8-week-old son, three years ago. Thirty-five-year-old Robert Jenkins Jr., was arrested yesterday after a nearly three-year investigation into the death of the baby which occurred on September 5th, 2022. Initially, the child’s death was attributed to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, but several months later toxicology reports found the baby had both methamphetamine and alcohol in his system. The death of the child was then ruled as alcohol intoxication, and was ruled a homicide. During an investigation by the Altoona Police Department, it was discovered that Jenkins was alone with the child and was responsible for allegedly providing a fatal dose of alcohol. Jenkins has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person, and endangering the welfare of children. He has been placed in the Blair County Prison where bail has been set at $100,000. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 27th.
