An inmate convicted earlier of beating and killing a guard in 2018 will now be placed on death row. Former SCI Somerset inmate Paul Kendrick was in court yesterday, where a judge agreed with a jury’s prior recommendation to sentence him to death. In March, a jury convicted Kendrick of first-degree murder in the killing of Sgt. Mark Baserman, who was a corrections officer at SCI Somerset. It should be noted that Pennsylvania currently has a moratorium in place on executions in the state. This moratorium was initially established by former Governor Tom Wolf in 2015, and has been continued by current Governor Josh Shapiro.
