Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was in Blair County yesterday visiting the Kulp Family Dairy Farm in Martinsburg. The governor was there to highlight the need to accelerate the permit process for farm expansions. In a prepared statement the governor said from day one his administration has made cutting red tape, and streamlining government a top priority. He noted that by speeding up permitting processes, his administration is helping farm families, like the Kulps, expand their operations, supporting jobs, boosting food production, and driving rural economic growth. Reportedly, the Kulp Dairy Farm is planning a major expansion to add new animal housing barns, a milking parlor, a manure separation building, a waste storage pond, and other infrastructure improvements. The expansion will allow the farm to add nearly 1,000 dairy cows. The Kulp family had filed a permit to expand their farm back in February. Reportedly, six months later, the permit was released and improved on August 7th, four months earlier than what was expected. Reportedly, the Shapiro Administration worked with the Kulp family throughout the permitting process, to move forward in a timely fashion.
