Pennsylvania Rejects DOJ Request For Voter Registration List

Pennsylvania is refusing to hand over personal voter information to the U.S. Department of Justice.  Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt said the DOJ’s request for the state’s electronic voter roll did not provide any legal justification, and called it a “concerning attempt to expand the federal government’s role” in the electoral process.  The voter roll includes sensitive data like driver’s license and Social Security numbers.  Schmidt said the department is welcome to request the state’s public index of registered voters, which is available for 20-dollars.
