A federal lawsuit is alleging a “culture of pervasive abuse” at the State Correctional Institute at Muncy. A former inmate claims she and many others at the all-female prison were sexually assaulted by staff, but very little was done about it. It alleges prison employees are mainly focused on controlling inmates, resulting in abuse being “passively dismissed.” The lawsuit comes months after another former inmate sued the prison alleging it failed to protect her from sexual abuse by her parole agent.
