An Altoona man was taken into custody this past weekend after he allegedly used an axe to threaten two women and break into a residence. On Sunday, police responded to a home on Duff Drive following a 911 call reporting a man with an axe. When police arrived they discovered 31-year-old Shawn Himes at the scene, who reportedly was at the home because he was upset with his girlfriend providing a ride to a third party. According to a criminal complaint by Altoona Police, Himes allegedly struck a woman’s vehicle with the axe. One of the woman went inside to help children escape through a back door when Himes allegedly followed her inside. Reportedly the woman was able to calm Himes down and take the axe. Himes was taken into custody and charged with terroristic threats, assault and other related counts. He has been placed in the Blair County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for September 10th.
