A man is being credited for his quick action after he rescued a child from an elevated monorail track at Hersheypark last weekend. John Sampson says he was able to reach the terrified child by getting on the roof of a nearby ice cream stand then climbing onto the tracks. The boy was not injured and was reunited with his parents a short time later. The National Autism Association released a statement noting that people close to the situation say the boy is autistic, and that the incident is consistent with “autism-related wandering,” which can happen quietly, quickly, and in any setting, regardless of supervision.
