PA Gov. Says State Preparing For Potential National Guard Arrival In Philly

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has stated that the state is making preparations in the event that President Trump decides to deploy National Guard troops to Philadelphia. Shapiro’s comments were made on Tuesday, during an unrelated event in North Philadelphia.  The Governor noted that while there is no indication of an imminent deployment, Pennsylvania officials have been observing developments in other parts of the country.  Shapiro criticized President Trump’s earlier decision to deploy the National Guard in Los Angeles, stating it was “wrongheaded” to federalize the Guard and place them on the streets.  Los Angeles and Washington D.C. have recently seen such deployments, which the Trump Administration has authorized in an effort to reduce crime.
