DEP Releases Report On Purple Water In The Halter Creek In Roaring Spring

wrta-logo-sm

Demolition work at the former Appvion Paper Mill in Roaring Spring, caused a chemical leak that turned Halter Creek purple last Thursday.  The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection reported that a ruptured overflow pipe from the Spring Dam splashed water onto a tank containing paper dye residue, which then flowed into the creek. While the discoloration was concerning, DEP stated there was no immediate environmental harm, and mill crews contained the spill.
