Penn State’s Board of Trustees has approved a new contract for President Neeli Bendapudi, which will increase her annual compensation by approximately $1 million. The 34-1 vote, which occurred last week, raises her salary from $950,000 to $1.4 million and includes a guaranteed 3.5% annual raise through 2032. Additionally, her retention bonus will be increased to $525,000, paid in lump sums in 2027 and 2032, and her yearly retirement plan payments will rise to $650,000. This approved compensation increase comes as the university plans to close seven Commonwealth Campuses after next spring, due to declining enrollment, and financial pressures. The board also voted last week against a proposal to transfer ownership of its NPR and PBS-affiliated public broadcasting station WPSU to WHYY in Philadelphia. That plan would have included $17 million in university funding over five years. As a result of the decision, WPSU is expected to shut down next June.
