Somerset County District Attorney Molly Metzgar has announced a partnership with the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to form an immigration enforcement task force. The program, approved recently after an application in July, deputizes local law enforcement to assist with immigration enforcement duties, allowing them to identify individuals without legal status during routine activities like DUI checkpoints, and share information with ICE. Somerset County is the first DA’s office in western Pennsylvania to join an ICE program.
