Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 8/24/25 (Mike Hype/Homegrown Music Fest)

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 24 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

Thanks to our guest via phone this week, Mike Hype, who previewed the upcoming annual Homegrown Music & Community Festival, which will take place on Saturday, September 6 at People’s Natural Gas Park near downtown Johnstown. Mike provided details about this year’s event, which will raise funds for three different Johnstown area charities. We also heard songs from three of the four performing acts at the event – Habatat, the Derek Woods Band and headliners Michael Glabicki (of Rusted Root) with Dirk Miller. Along the way, we introduced new songs from Street Beans and Dan Stonerook; updated “Local Music News,” and dug a 1980 song by Pittsburgh’s Iron City Houserockers from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback!” (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 082425.)

In Local Music News…

First, speedy recovery wishes go out to Hair Force One frontman Victor Synn, who has been experiencing voice issues since late July. In an update on the group’s Facebook page this past week, Victor reported that he is still dealing with significant vocal fatigue and inflammation of his vocal cords. Due to this, he made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining two weekends of August in order to get a significant amount of rest for his voice.

After recently completing his “67 Trees on 67 Mountains in 67 Counties” project – climbing the tallest tree at the highest point in all 67 of Pennsylvania’s counties to raise awareness for forest management – Danville-based singer, songwriter and tree enthusiast Van Wagner has announced his new project of celebrating the 50 State Trees of the USA. Van has set a personal goal to climb each of the state trees of the United States. As a forester with the Society of American Foresters, he hopes to draw public attention to the nation’s forests. Van hopes the effort will give him a chance to get people’s attention and allow him to create discussions about forestry. Thus far, he has climbed seven trees in seven states with the latest being Florida, and he has 43 to go.
