A Bedford Township couple received sentences of 7.5 to 40 years in state prison for charges last week related to an “extreme” animal abuse and hoarding case in 2023. Eighty-two-year-old Nyal Barton Piper, and his 64-year-old wife, Renee Piper, pled no contest in June to 20 felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, among other charges, following the discovery of nearly 100 animals in squalid cages stacked ceiling to floor.
