Penn State Fires James Franklin

Penn State has fired head football coach James Franklin.  The school announced the move yesterday, after the Nittany Lions suffered their third straight loss of the season on Saturday.  Penn State’s Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, Patrick Kraft said in a statement that they “believe this is the right moment for new leadership at the helm of our football program.”  Franklin took over the role as head coach in 2014.  Penn State’s buyout of Franklin’s contract is reportedly the second largest buyout in college football history to the tune of $49-million dollars.  The university also announced that associate head coach Terry Smith will become the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
