Clearfield County Democratic Commissioner Dave Glass has announced his opposition to the ICE processing facility in Philipsburg, despite his initial support for the project. In a recent Facebook statement Glass condemned what he called “brutal and immoral tactics” used by ICE agents, and cited instances of non-criminal individuals being held in detention. The Moshannon Valley Processing Center, operated by GEO Group, is the largest immigration detention facility in the Northeast, and is run under a five-year agreement that the Clearfield County Commissioners approved in 2021. The contract, which is set to expire next September, provides Clearfield County with $1 million over five years, to serve as the conduit between GEO Group and ICE.
