Pennsylvania is offering a $250,000 grant from the 2025 Act 13 Unconventional Gas Well Fund to help fire, rescue, and EMS personnel train for, and respond to gas well emergencies. State Fire Commissioner Thomas Cook announced applications are open until November 30, 2025, for organizations in counties with, or bordering unconventional gas wells. With many counties in our region having a large number of permitted Marcellus Shale gas wells, first responders face a higher risk of emergencies at these sites. Some of those counties include Blair, Cambria, Centre, Clearfield, Huntingdon, Bedford and Somerset.
