Authorities have identified the man found dead near railroad tracks in Johnstown’s West End, as 38-year-old Edward J. Newcomer, of Nanty Glo. Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees held a media briefing yesterday morning to confirm the identity. According to Lees, an autopsy showed Newcomer sustained massive head and upper body trauma, injuries consistent with being hit by a train. While the cause of death is clear, the manner of death—how or why Newcomer was on the tracks—is still under police investigation. The coroner’s office is awaiting surveillance video from Norfolk Southern, to aid in the inquiry.
