A Philipsburg man is in custody after allegedly attempting to lure a 9-year-old girl into his vehicle in Decatur Township. According to State Police in Clearfield County, 66-year-old Daryl Downes is accused of approaching the child in his Jeep in early August, where he reportedly asked for her name and age. The criminal affidavit states the girl told investigators that she lied about her name but confirmed her age. Downes allegedly then told the victim, “Your mom told me to come pick you up,” while patting the passenger seat. As Downes reportedly attempted to open the door from the inside, the girl ran away. Downes was later apprehended, and is now behind bars in the Clearfield County Prison, on one felony count of attempted luring of a child into a motor vehicle. His bail has been set at $100,000.
