An Altoona woman, 53-year-old Desiree R. Peavler, received a 9 to 18-month sentence in the Blair County Prison yesterday, for striking and killing a motorcyclist in September 2022 and then fleeing to Texas. Peavler pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter. The accident happened on East Pleasant Boulevard in Antis Township when she struck motorcyclist, 38-year-old Christopher Cowfer head on. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Peavler, who was originally facing a felony count of homicide by vehicle and a summary count of reckless driving, had those more serious charges dismissed as part of her plea deal.
