An emergency room technician at UPMC Altoona was severely injured after allegedly being attacked by a patient, requiring he undergo emergency surgery after being transported to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh with serious head injuries.  The suspect, 40-year-old Bradley Scott Lloyd of Tyrone faces multiple charges including aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.  On Saturday morning, UPMC Police were called to the emergency room for a violent patient.  When officers arrived they found a male ER patient care technician, unconscious on the floor, while nurses tended to his injuries.  Lloyd, who reportedly was trying to escape, surrendered after police pointed tasers at him.  He was then restrained on a bed and sedated.  The victim is reported to have suffered a fractured skull, and a brain bleed along with other injuries.  His condition is unknown at present.  In a prepared statement UPMC said,” While we must respect our colleagues and their families’ privacy and cannot share medical details, we are encouraged by the positive updates we’ve received, and remain closely connected with them, and their loved ones.”  Lloyd has been placed in the Blair County Prison where bail has been denied, because of a history of violence, and an arrest warrant in Missouri.
