wrta-logo-sm

A bridge dedication ceremony will be held tomorrow in Antis Township to honor the life and service of U.S. Air Force veteran Lt. Col. Daniel Lee Swayne, a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School.  Lt. Col. Swayne dedicated 21 years of his life to military service, beginning his Air Force career in 1987 and earning his F-16 pilot wings in 1988.  He achieved the status of a command pilot, accumulating over 4,000 F-16 flight hours, and was a graduate of the elite USAF Fighter Weapons School.  His distinguished career was marked by numerous commendations, including the prestigious Distinguished Flying Cross, awarded for his valor during the Gulf War.  Following his retirement from the U.S. Air Force, he continued his passion for aviation as an instructor pilot with the United Arab Emirates Air Force.  Tragically, he died in a plane crash in the United Arab Emirates in 2016.  The ceremony will begin tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. at the American Legion Post 424, located on Main Street in Bellwood.  The East Pleasant Valley Boulevard Bridge, which crosses the Little Juniata River, will be officially dedicated in his memory.
