The U.S. Department of Energy is awarding a one-billion-dollar loan to the Three Mile Island restart project located near Harrisburg.  Constellation Energy made the announcement yesterday as crews work to construct the Unit One reactor into the Crane Clean Energy Center.  Constellation said the facility is already almost 80-percent staffed with 500 full-time employees on-site.  The company hopes to finish the project in 2027.  Constellation energy and Microsoft have a 20-year agreement for Microsoft to purchase the power generated by the plant.  This new nuclear power plant, once completed, will provide carbon-free energy to the grid, primarily for Microsoft’s data centers.  The power will help meet the significant energy demands of the company’s cloud computing, and artificial intelligence operations.
