Legislation that would increase river safety in Pennsylvania is being pursued in honor of Bethel Park High School teacher Jon Gentile. Jon drowned in a kayaking accident in 2022 after encountering a low-head dam. Under Pennsylvania House Bill 961, all dams will need to be marked with warning signs and the Department of Environmental Protection will need to update a comprehensive dam list annually. The measure has been passed through committee, and will now be considered before the full Pennsylvania House.
