A new, fully refundable state tax credit for lower-income workers in Pennsylvania, known as the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit, is now available for tax time this spring. Announced by Governor Josh Shapiro’s administration, the program is considered a landmark change for the state’s working class. The credit is a state version of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit, allowing eligible Pennsylvania workers to claim a credit on their state income tax bill equivalent to 10% of their federal Earned Income Tax Credit. Anyone who qualifies for the federal EITC will automatically qualify for the state credit as well. When filing federal and state taxes, the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue will automatically calculate the state credit. More information can be found on the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue website.
