State Supreme Court To Hear Arguments On The Legality Of Skill Games

skill-games-2

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is hearing arguments today, on the legality of skill gaming machines, an issue that has divided state lawmakers.  These machines, currently operating in a legal gray area, differ from traditional, regulated, and taxed gambling machines that rely solely on chance.  Governor Josh Shapiro has advocated for regulating and imposing a 52% tax on the unregulated skill machines, citing a significant loss to the Pennsylvania Lottery.  The controversy stems from whether the machines, widely available in locations like bars and convenience stores, should be treated like casino slot machines (which are heavily regulated and taxed).  State lawmakers remain divided on the issue, with Governor Shapiro pushing for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to regulate the machines, and implement a 52% tax to generate revenue for the state, and the lottery.
