Evidence suppression hearings that could last a week, begin in New York City today in the Luigi Mangione murder case. The judge has ordered pre-trial hearings in New York State’s case against the 27-year-old Mangione. He is pleading not guilty to gunning down United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown Manhattan last December. Mangione’s lawyers are arguing that certain evidence collected by Pennsylvania police when Mangione was apprehend in Altoona last December, should be suppressed because they allegedly searched Mangione’s backpack without a warrant. They also claim police failed to read him his Miranda rights.
