Wegmans Recalls Cheese

cheese-2

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of Locatelli Grated Pecorino Romano Cheese sold at Wegmans stores in Pennsylvania.  The recall was issued due to the potential presence of Listeria, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.  While healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms, Listeria infection poses a severe risk to vulnerable populations, including young children, the elderly, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women, where it can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.  According to the FDA announcement, all lot codes of the product, which is sold in a plastic tub, have been recalled and removed from shelves.   Customers who purchased the affected cheese should not consume it.  The product can be returned to any Wegmans store for a full refund.  For more information, consumers can reference the official FDA recall announcement, or contact Wegmans directly.
