Jtown Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty

animal-cruelty

A Johnstown woman is facing more than two dozen counts of animal cruelty and neglect charges after she allegedly abandoned 11 cats in a home on the 900 block of Ash Street in the Hornerstown section of the city.  According to police, 48-year-old Christine Hozak moved to a new address in the Solomon Homes community, and left the cats behind without care or food.  Authorities were alerted by a neighbor.  The animal rescue and rehabilitation group Project Meow, based in Portage, is currently caring for the rescued animals. Officials with the group reported that they have saved nine of the 11 cats; however, two remain missing, and a kitten was found dead at the scene.  Hozak has been ordered to reimburse Project Meow for all associated costs of care.  She was charged this week with a number of animal cruelty charges, and is currently free on unsecured bail.  Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 10th.
