Accused CEO killer Luigi Mangione’s pre-trial hearing in New York City will enter a fifth day of testimony today. Yesterday, Mangione’s defense lawyers claimed Altoona Police Officer Christy Wasser made up a story about a possible bomb as a reason to search Mangione’s backpack without a warrant. Wasser told the courtroom she was concerned that there was a bomb in that backpack. That backpack search happened during Mangione’s arrest a year ago today, at a McDonald’s on Plank Road. That search is the centerpiece of the ongoing evidence suppression pre-trial hearing in New York City. Altoona Police say they found Mangione’s manifesto and the alleged murder weapon used to gun down United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, inside that bag. Mangione’s team wants the gun and all evidence found in the backpack excluded from the upcoming murder trial, saying authorities didn’t have the legal right to go through the backpack. Mangione is accused of killing Thompson on December 4th of last year, as he was heading to an investor conference in Midtown Manhattan.
