Yesterday, Blair County President Judge Wade Kagarise issued a six-month injunction prohibiting the Lakemont Partnership from selling the historic Leap-The-Dips roller coaster. According to this morning’s Altoona Mirror, this order extends a temporary injunction from December 11, which followed a county lawsuit filed on December 9. The extension was granted after the partnership confirmed it has no immediate plans to sell, and both parties indicated they wish to reach a mutual settlement. Judge Kagarise clarified that the county may pursue further legal action if no resolution is reached. The dispute involves a 2006 maintenance and preservation agreement that remains active until 2066. The county sought legal intervention after its 60-day purchase option expired—a window triggered when the partnership reported that maintaining the coaster was no longer financially feasible. While the county is blocking the sale, officials noted they currently lack the funds to purchase the landmark themselves.
