Yesterday during a morning meeting, Blair County commissioners said they have a potential site for a new prison, signaling the end of a very long search. While a final purchase agreement has not yet been signed, officials have begun the preliminary steps to acquire the property. According to this morning’s Altoona Mirror, Commissioner Dave Kessling said he would like to announce the location of the property, but can’t until the sale is finalized. Blair County needs the land for a new prison because the current facility is over 150 years old, needs many repairs, and lacks adequate space.
