Festivus Is Today

festivus-pole

Today is Festivus, an anti-commercialist holiday popularized by the hit 90s sitcom “Seinfeld.”  The origins of the holiday can be traced back to Seinfeld writer Dan O’Keefe’s father, who celebrated something similar starting back in the 1960s.  Some bits were changed for the episode that aired in 1997 and today some still celebrate.  It involves an aluminum pole instead of a Christmas tree, an airing of grievances where people share how others disappointed them this year, and feats of strength.
