Former Blair Co. Inmate Files Suit Alleging Lack Of Care Leading To Miscarriages

prison-3

A federal civil rights lawsuit has been filed by former Blair County inmate Amanda Horner, who alleges that jail officials and a private medical contractor, PrimeCare Medical, caused the miscarriage of her twins through medical neglect. According to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Horner notified staff of her high-risk pregnancy immediately upon arrival at the Blair County Prison earlier this year.  The lawsuit claims Horner spent weeks reporting severe cramping and bleeding through formal grievances and sick calls, yet her pleas were allegedly ignored or delayed.  Despite eventual transfers to Conemaugh Nason Hospital, and UPMC Altoona, the filing asserts that inadequate intervention by prison staff and contractors ultimately led to the loss of her pregnancy.  Horner is reportedly seeking $1 million in damages.  No response has yet been filed in the case.
