Steve Sheetz, the former CEO of Sheetz who led the company from 1981-196, has passed away at the age of 77. According to reports from this morning’s Altoona Mirror, Sheetz died last night at UPMC Altoona following a battle with respiratory complications. His health had recently declined, including a two-week hospitalization for pneumonia at the Cleveland Clinic. Although he reportedly returned home on Christmas Eve, he was readmitted to UPMC Altoona on December 28th. Sheetz had also been managing the long-term effects of leukemia since his diagnosis in 2011. Beyond his business legacy, Sheetz was a prominent philanthropist; he and his wife Nancy, were the largest donors in the history of Penn State Altoona. He is survived by Nancy, and their two daughter Megan and Nikki. Funeral arrangements are pending.
