A 44-year-old Gallitzin man has been hit with more than a dozen charges after allegedly fleecing an elderly Shade Township, Somerset County couple who had hired him for general labor. According to the criminal complaint, the victims provided Lucas Passeau with house keys to assist with chores around their home and garage. However, the Pennsylvania State Police were contacted in August of last year after the couple discovered 12 of their checks had been stolen and forged for a total of $5,480. Beyond the bank fraud, the couple reported that their trust was further betrayed by the disappearance of several personal items, including jewelry, tools, cash, and two firearms. Passeau has been placed in the Somerset County Prison in lieu of bail. He is facing a preliminary hearing on January 17th.
