A nurse at a Centre County nursing facility is facing elder abuse charges following a months-long investigation into an October incident. State College Police allege that 49-year-old Crystal Winters of Three Springs, forced medication down the throat of a 90-year-old dementia patient at the Embassy of Hearthside which is a nursing facility in Centre County. According to court documents, Winters allegedly reacted “angrily” after the combative resident scratched her face while refusing medication. The situation reportedly required four nurses to intervene. Winters has been charged with assault and neglect of a care-dependent person. Winters is free without bail, and is to face a preliminary hearing this Wednesday.
