Top-ranked Indiana won the College Football National Championship last night in Miami, beating the University of Miami 27-to-21. Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza scored the eventual game-winning touchdown with a 12-yard run on fourth down, and four with just over nine minutes left in the game. The Hoosiers are the first major college football team since Yale in 1894 to finish the season with a perfect 16-and-oh record.
