A 43-year-old Huntingdon County man, Matthew Edward Thomas, faces felony charges after a neighbor reported seeing a young child in his care outdoors without shoes or adequate winter clothing.  Pennsylvania State Police responded to the welfare check on Main Street in Shade Gap Borough on the evening of December 3rd.  According to the police affidavit, troopers located the child inside the home wearing only thin pajamas, noting he was visibly cold and lacked socks or shoes.  Authorities reported that Thomas exhibited erratic behavior and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics.  He allegedly made “disturbing” comments involving the child and the county coroner while expressing paranoid beliefs regarding government interference.  Thomas has been charged with endangering the welfare of children and related offenses.  He is currently held at the Huntingdon County Prison in lieu of bail.
