After eight years on the force, Tyrone Borough’s K-9 officer, Getro, is heading into early retirement.  On Monday, Tyrone Borough Council voted 6-0 to end Getro’s service effective as of March 11th, citing his advancing age and a decline in deployment.  While the German Shepherd was originally slated to retire at the end of the year, officials opted to move the date up following a private executive session.  According to this morning’s Altoona Mirror there was some concern expressed by borough Officer Austin Miller regarding the decision, because the dog’s handler,  Officer Traci Winters had not been informed of the early retirement.
