U.S. Steel is facing nearly 120-thousand dollars in fines over safety issues related to the deadly explosion at the Clairton Coke Works. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has issued nine citations over inadequate employee training and safety procedures, plus a lack of equipment to isolate machinery from their sources of energy. U.S. Steel employees Timothy Quinn and Steven Menefee were killed last August when the blast tore through the area between Coke Batteries 13 and 14. Another ten workers and one contractor were injured as well. OSHA also issued a tenth citation against the company for failing to provide incident reports within a specific timeframe.
