Governor Josh Shapiro officially unveiled Pennsylvania’s first-ever comprehensive Housing Action Plan last week.  The 52-page roadmap addresses a projected shortage of 18,500 homes by 2035 and proposes nearly 30 strategic initiatives to boost supply and affordability.  The plan focuses on five goals to be achieved over the next ten years and includes increased production while protecting existing homes through infrastructure investment and home repairs, reducing barriers for first-time homebuyers and renters, preventing evictions and foreclosures, update Municipalities Planning Code to reduce regulatory barriers, and reducing costs by cutting “red tape.” Central to this plan is a $1 billion Critical Infrastructure Investment Fund proposed in the 2026-27 budget.
