Theft At Sheetz Prompts ‘Stay Put Alerts’ For Brief Time

A theft from a vehicle at the 7^th Street Sheetz yesterday morning, triggered brief ‘Stay Put Alerts’ for nearby Altoona Schools.   Shortly after 10:30, a suspect entered an unlocked, idling car and stole a victims purse while she was inside the store.   Witnesses in the dining area alerted the victim, with several people chasing the suspect, who discarded a phone and purse while fleeing.  Altoona Police recovered the purse, but the money inside was missing.  Reportedly around 12:30 yesterday afternoon officers located and detained a suspect near the Jaffa Shrine.  An investigation continues.
