A house fire broke out yesterday morning, in East Carroll Township near Patton Borough, causing significant damage and the hospitalization of its two elderly residents. Fire crews form Patton, Carrolltown, Hastings and Ashville responded to the call on Magee Road around 9:30 a.m. Reportedly, a volunteer firefighter already in the area helped two residents escape before they were transported to UPMC Altoona for a medical evaluation. Firefighters also rescued seven cats from the home, some of which required the use of an oxygen mask. Its believed the fire started in the garage before it spread to the home. The home reportedly sustained damage to the first floor, and extensive heat and smoke damage throughout the second floor. A Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate.
