A homeowner in Somerset Township, fatally shot an intruder who allegedly attempted to break into a residence on the 100 block of Locust Street early yesterday morning. State police were dispatched to the home around 2:00 a.m. following reports of an attempted break-in. Reportedly, the homeowner told authorities he woke up after hearing a loud bagging noise on a kitchen window. He confronted a man who demanded to be let in, and eventually broke a window to enter. Despite being warned that the homeowner was armed, the intruder continued his attempt to enter the home. The homeowner then shot the man in the head. State police found the deceased intruder near the back door of the home. A preliminary investigation by state police suggests the homeowner acted in self-defense. The Somerset County DA’s Office is continuing an investigation.
