A neighbor saved a young man by catching him as he leapt from a second-story balcony during a fire in Newry Borough late Sunday night. The blaze broke out around 11:00 p.m. along the 1000 block of Shamrock Lane, and that’s according to the Freedom Township Volunteer Fire Company. The fire started in a narrow 20-foot gap between two buildings—one occupied and one vacant—and eventually spread to a nearby one-car garage. Fortunately no injuries were reported. Both main buildings suffered extensive structural damage, and are considered total losses. (Photo courtesy of Freedom Township Vol. Fire Co.)
